Librarianship in the modern world requires some knowledge in other fields, such as technology and instructional design. Sometimes expanding our knowledge into related areas is what makes the job interesting; but often we do not have time to take in an entire additional field of study. The obvious solution is to bring in partners who are already experts in related fields like instructional design. When designing instruction or learning objects, collaboration with instructional designers is a natural fit.
