There is a growing expectation for high performance design in architecturernwhich negotiates between the requirements of the clientrnand the physical constraints of a building site. Clients for buildingrnprojects often challenge architects to maximize view qualityrnsince it can significantly increase real estate value. To pursue thisrnchallenge, architects typically move through several design revisionrncycles to identify a set of design options which satisfy these viewrnquality expectations in coordination with other goals of the project.rnHowever, reviewing a large quantity of design options within thernpractical time constraints is challenging due to the limitations ofrnexisting tools for view performance evaluation. These challengesrninclude flexibility in the definition of view quality and the abilityrnto handle the expensive computation involved in assessing both thernview quality and the exploration of a large number of possible designrnoptions. To address these challenges, we propose a cataloguebasedrnframework that enables the interactive exploration of conceptualrnbuilding design options based on adjustable view preferences.rnWe achieve this by integrating a flexible mechanism to combinerndifferent view measures with an indexing scheme for view computationrnthat achieves high performance and precision. Furthermore,rnthe combined view measures are then used to model the buildingrndesign space as a high dimensional scalar function. The topologicalrnfeatures of this function are then used as candidate building designs.rnFinally, we propose an interactive design catalogue for the explorationrnof potential building designs based on the given view preferences.rnWe demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach throughrntwo use case scenarios to assess view potential and explore conceptualrnbuilding designs on sites with high development likelihood inrnManhattan, New York City.
