The authors have presented an interesting simplified method for calculating the shear strength reinforced concrete beams. The discusser would like to offer the following: 1. It is unclear in the paper that the authors have accounted for the inclined (bent-up) bars as a shear reinforcement bars (such as 45 or 67.5 degrees or any other angle) in the longitudinal reinforcement in calculating the shearing force. Were beams having bent-up bars considered in 533 test specimens? 2. In Fig. 9, the value of α_(x1) versus aid is a calculated value, and based on the calculated value, Eq. (11) was developed. In fact, these values should be based on the test values. The calculated values cannot be used to develop Eq. (11). Also, the authors' a_(x1) value after an approximate value of a/d ≈ 3.0 becomes a constant value of 0.2, which is inconsistent with the test data.
