Firms are not geared up to manage their businesses effectively or to maximise profitability, despite being well aware of the problems they face in an increasingly commercial and competitive environment. When it comes to profits, the majority of respondents to a recent survey commented that the minimum acceptable profit share for the risk/responsibility of being an equity partner should be £180,000. However, although partners in the better firms were achieving well in excess of this figure, a considerable number were barely making £100,000.
