A job for all reasons

When I became president of the institute the Enron crisis was swirling around us. I said then that the auditing profession was at a critical moment in its history. How we in the profession reacted to events happening on a different continent would determine our future. With the benefit of hindsight I still think that judgment was right. My comments at that time, and the thoughts which underpinned them, were almost entirely focused on our position here in the UK, and our response was, of necessity, largely UK focused.That is not to say I was not mindful of what was happening in the rest of the world; indeed, international regulators and representatives of the global profession became very regular callers at Moorgate Place.
