Leading executive search firm Egon Zehnder recently surveyed 133 international executives on their views on education and self-development. Surprisingly, despite 40% of the sampled executives holding an MBA, only one in five of them believed that an MBA prepares people to deal with the real-life challenges that a manager has to face. Which begs the question: what development should you be engaging in? Here, the survey illustrated some interesting cultural differences. For example, while 60% of US executives said they pick up a book to inspire them with new ideas, only one in three German executives reached for the bookshelf.
