ACA comes to Singapore

Trainees are now able to sign up for the ACA in Singapore, following the recent launch of the qualification there. The training programme - which will be run by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore, in collaboration with the ICAEW -starts in January. The rapid growth of financial services in Singapore has led to a major shortage of accountants and introducing the ACA should help to create a larger pool of talent for accountancy firms. Membership of ICPAS is restricted to accounting graduates so, in the past, the only option for non-accountancy graduates seeking to join the profession was through other qualifications. Now they can join ICPAS by qualifying as ACAs and undertaking a short preadmission course. 'Singapore is building a global reputation for itself based on integrity and rigour in accounting standards and business practice,' ICAEW president David Furst told guests at the launch. 'And, given its position today and its ambitions for the future, Singapore is a natural choice for the ICAEW as we look to increase the number of markets in which we offer our ACA qualification.'
