CFOs struggle to keep pace with business world

Chief financial officers fear they are out of touch with the demands of their job as the business world evolves, according to an Ernst & Young study. Besides struggling to cope with increasing workloads, many CFOs believe they simply do not know enough about the wider issues facing their businesses to operate effectively. According to E&Y's report, What's next for the CFO? Where ambition meets reality, an ideal world would see a CFO spending more time in the business partner role, working on strategy and improving performance. Yet the report indicates that CFOs are becoming increasingly marginalised and distracted by the demands of compliance and corporate governance, with 88% of respondents stating that 'being good with numbers' is no longer enough.
