CONCERTED EFFORT TO IMPROVE ACCESS

UK accountancy bodies and employers are to take pan-professional action in an effort to widen access to the profession.rnThe decision follows publication of the government's report on access to the professions, which contained 88 recommendations for improvement.rnAlthough accounting organisations already do a significant amount to promote fair access on a micro-level, representatives - including the ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, the AAT and various firms -agreed that a concerted effort would have greater impact.rnAt a recent roundtable meeting, they discussed how the profession could engage more with schools in disadvantaged communities and widenrnopportunities for internships and work experience in accountancy practices.
