The first question once someone has been identified as at risk of being removed from the partnership is whether that person is a true partner. Salaried partners are, as the name suggests, usually employees and would therefore have normal employment rights. Fixed-share partners are often described as self-employed just like the equity partners, but that is sometimes arguable, and it is not attractive for an accountancy firm to have to litigate over the employment status of its fixed-share partners.
