More than 900 firms have signed up to the Business Advice Service, ICAEW's new service for start-ups and small growing businesses. They are keen to fill the advisory gap that will be left by the disappearance of the Business Links network in November, which is being axed in the government cutbacks. Under the scheme, the firms will offer a free initial consultation, giving SMEs access to outstanding professional financial advice. 'We decided not to put a limit on the free consultation,' said ICAEW West Midlands regional director Nigel Hastilow, 'since some may take no time at all and others will require much longer. It will be at the discretion of each firm.
