Accounting for International Development (AfID), which sends volunteer accountants out to help build financial management capacity and long-term sustainability in small community-based charities throughout Africa and Asia, is celebrating several major milestones. It has just placed its 1 OOth volunteer accountant (now happily ensconced at children's education charity Sharana in Pondicherry, India) and completed 12,000 hours of volunteer support donated to 70 overseas charities. Much of the volunteering is thanks to ICAEW members. Of the 100 volunteers placed since AfID was set up 18 months ago, 61 of them are ACAs, way ahead of second-placed CIMA which has provided 17.
