A cheering news story from the financial services sector these days may be as rare as hens' teeth, but wealth manager Hargreaves Lansdown had good cause to celebrate last month when it took up a place in the FTSE 100. Founded by accountants Peter Hargreaves and Stephen Lansdown, who still own 52% of the company, the promotion comes less than four years after they floated the firm on the London Stock Exchange. The pair set up the company, now valued at some ￡1.5bn, back in 1981 with an initial investment of ￡500 each.
