After 13 years of deliberations, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) issued an Exposure Draft (ED) on 30 July 2010 that will ultimately replace IFRS 4, Insurance Contracts. The existing standard allows insurers to continue applying most of their existing accounting policies, meaning that the financial statements of insurers reporting under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) lack comparability.
