Some employers who correctly filed either an earlier year update, their month 12 real time information (RTI) full payment summary or an employment payment summary (EPS) - any of which showed no monetary amounts, or who filed a month 12 EPS with construction industry scheme (CIS) deductions suffered, may have received a penalty letter from HMRC. This is acknowledged as a mistake in a statement issued by the tax authority, it said: 'HMRC is sorry for any inconvenience and concern caused.'
