MTD DOES NOT MEAN QUARTERLY FILING

HMRC has gone on the offensive to counter claims that its move to making tax digital (MTD) will increase the accounting costs and administrative burden for large numbers of businesses, in the wake of sustained criticism from professional bodies and companies about the proposals. In a letter published in the Financial Times, Jim Harra, tax assurance commissioner at HMRC, denied that switching to MTD would require businesses to make quarterly returns as well as their annual return.
