In the wake of the outcome of the EU referendum in June there were widespread predictions that the proposed 2017 changes to the rules on domicile would be substantially scaled back or abandoned altogether. Realistically this was never likely given the determination shown by the government and the fact that at a practical level there is no reason to expect a mass exit of the super wealthy from London or elsewhere in the UK. Instead in late August a further consultation was published on the proposals and while this does look to modify what was originally announced and clarify further proposals, it falls very far short of what many hoped would be the approach of the new government.
