HMRC chief executive Lin Homer is to leave in April, after four years in the top job at the UK tax authority, but has said she is not immediately seeking a new position. As yet, a replacement has not been named but HMRC has confirmed that the recruitment process is underway and more details will be provided in due course. Homer's time at HMRC has attracted some controversy with criticism of the tax authority by MPs and the National Audit Office for continuing low levels of customer service, the furore over the use of offshore accounts through HSBC's Swiss private bank and her oversight of punitive new powers for HMRC such as direct recovery of debts and accelerated payment notices.
