CLASS 2 NICs TO BE ABOLISHED IN 2017

The Autumn Statement included a number of changes to the national insurance contributions (NICs) regime, as the Chancellor acknowledged the work of the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) to encourage greater alignment between NICs and income tax. The NICs employer and employee thresholds will be aligned from April 2017, meaning that both employees and employers will start paying National Insurance on weekly earnings above £157. The move will bring in an additional £170m in tax receipts in 2017-18, and £145m annually from 2018 onwards.
