DIGITAL SERVICES TAX ON INTERNET GIANTS

The government will introduce a tax on large digital multinationals that operate in the UK or provide services to customers, including social media and online marketplaces, from April 2020, following consultation. Around 30 large digital multinational platforms will be charged a 2% tax on income from UK customers. 'This is not an online sales tax on sales on the internet. The digital services tax will only be paid by businesses that are profitable and generate more than £500m in global revenue,' the Chancellor said.
