摘要

The world has experienced rapid economic growth over the last 20 years. In particular, the BRIC nations have garnered a great amount of interest, specifically for their ability to expand their economies and raise the standard of living for many of their citizens. China is often held up by academics and practitioners alike as a particular example. The economic growth in China has allowed the nation to move more than 500 million of its citizens out of absolute poverty (defined as an income of $1 or less per day) (United Nations, 2010).
