Increased risk of 30-day postoperative complications for diabetic patients following open reduction-internal fixation of proximal humerus fractures: an analysis of 1391 patients from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database

BackgroundPrior database studies have shown that complication rates following surgical treatment of proximal humerus fractures are low. However, diabetes has been shown across orthopedics to have significantly increased risks of postoperative complications. The purpose of our study was to identify complications for which diabetic patients are at increased risk following operative treatment of proximal humerus fractures.
