Mammalian reovirus (MRV) has significant clinical potential as an oncolytic agent, but there is a need to improve anticancer potency. Kanai et al. ( ) engineered a reporter MRV that expresses a NanoLuc luciferase gene and used it for noninvasive imaging of MRV infection in tumor xenograft mice. The MRV reporter system allows for noninvasive quantitation of the dynamics of oncolytic virus infection , which may facilitate development of safer and more effective anticancer agents.
