A case of acute splenic vein thrombosis in a dog

An 11-year-old, castrated male, Yorkshire Terrier was presented with acute vomiting afterchicken bone ingestion. The dog had been diagnosed with hyperadrenocorticism previouslyand showed acute splenomegaly and signs of systemic inflammatory response syndrome duringhospitalization. On diagnostic imaging, acute splenic vein thrombosis was found,concurrent with pancreatitis and gastritis. The spleen showed marked enlargement andhypoechoic lacy appearances on ultrasonography, mimicking splenic torsion. On thehistopathologic report, only splenic hemorrhage and congestion with large splenic veinthrombosis were identified. After splenectomy, the dog completely recovered and wasdischarged.
