Ab externo implantation of the MicroShunt a poly (styrene-block-isobutylene-block-styrene) surgical device for the treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma: a review

Human pilot feasibility studies of three iterations of a SIBS-based glaucoma drainage microtube [ – ].  Advanced glaucoma cases, with about half of the eyes failing previous trabeculectomy. Qualified success was defined as IOP ≤ 21 mmHg with a ≥ 20% reduction in IOP from baseline, with or without glaucoma medication and with no further incisional procedure. Qualified success was defined as IOP ≤ 14 mmHg with a ≥ 20% reduction in IOP from baseline, with or without glaucoma medication and with no reoperation for glaucoma. Eleven of these patients had failed previous incisional procedures.
