In their retrospective study, Bedi and colleagues [ ] evaluated 123 patients with proximal lower extremity soft-tissue sarcomas who were treated with preoperative radiotherapy and surgical resection between 2000 and 2016. Soft-tissue tumors account for less than 1% of all tumors in adult patients, and for 7% to 15% of all tumors in children [ ]. Patients undergoing surgical exicisions of soft-tissue sarcoma are at high risk of infection and delayed wound healing because of the invasive nature of the disease, extensive soft-tissue dissections, impaired venous or lymphatic drainage (either from the tumor or its removal), and the effects of adjuvant therapies, including radiation or chemotherapy.
