摘要

The stigma and discrimination experienced due to their gender identity may be associated with several adverse health outcomes among TGW [ ]. Stigma may be indirectly associated with poor mental health in TGW by restricting their access to healthcare, housing, and employment [ , ]. There also is evidence of a direct association between stigma and stress and subsequent mental health problems [ , , ]. Societal attitudes toward TGW and the discrimination experienced by TGW on a daily basis may have a significant psychosocial impact on TGW and could be an important factor in explaining the mechanism that leads to mental health issues and negative health behaviors. For example, there is evidence that perceived stigma and discrimination are associated with anxiety and depressive symptoms [ , ], distress [ ], suicide attempts [ ], and a host of other negative mental outcomes [ , ].
