Impact of Practice Patterns in Shunt Use During CEA with Contralateral Carotid Occlusion

PurposeWe hypothesized that surgeons who place shunts infrequently during CEA may have inferior outcomes when shunt use may be required more commonly, such as contralateral carotid occlusion (CCO). Therefore, we studied the association between surgeon practice pattern in shunt placement and 30-day stroke/death in patients undergoing CEA with CCO.
