Predicting aggressive decline in Mild Cognitive Impairment: The importance of white matter hyperintensities

Importance:Although white matter hyperintensities (WMH) are associated with risk for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), it is unknown whether they represent an independent source of impairment or whether they interact with known markers of disease. Here, we examined the important question of whether WMH predict aggressive cognitive decline, either independently or interacting with markers of AD-related neurodegeneration, in individuals at risk for AD.
