INSIDER PERSPECTIVES: KEY TRENDS AND ISSUES IN AGING POLICY AS SEEN BY THE HEALTH AND AGING POLICY FELLOWS

The 2017–2018 Health and Aging Policy Fellows have compiled their insights from time spent in diverse placements in Federal and state executive and legislative branch agencies, offices, and committees into a single symposium covering the most salient issues related to health and aging. The symposium, presented on behalf of all 12 Fellows, will be delivered over three presentations covering the Federal legislative and executive branches and state efforts, respectively. Topics covered will include preparing for an aging population, healthy aging program implementation, Older Americans Act reauthorization, housing and poverty, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia care, and the opioid crisis. We will provide key insights into how different stakeholders conceptualize and aim to tackle these problems and the barriers and opportunities they encounter. We will close with a question and answer session and allow time for open discussion about the policymaking process and the Fellowship in general. Dr. Harold Pincus, Director of the Health and Aging Policy Fellows Program, will chair the session and 3 2017-2018 Fellows (Drs. Burke, Lewinson, and Leppin) will present the abstracts.
