BackgroundAnemia is very common in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)–associated tuberculosis, and hepcidin may be key in mediating this. We explored the relationship between blood hepcidin concentrations and anemia severity, mycobacterial burden and mortality in patients with HIV-associated tuberculosis.
