An interactive video program on nutritional aspects of geriatric care was produced at The University of Texas Medical Branch as part of a series of videodisc-based programs entitled, Healthcare for Older Adults. The series is being developed to provide continuing education for health care professionals in varied clinical settings, and is delivered on a PC-based system with touch-screen control. This paper will cover the structure of the content in the three modules and the technological tools that were used to create the visual effects. A “desktop video” workstation consisting of a Macintosh IIci, a monitor with 24-bit color, MacroMind Director with 3-D animation software, and a NuVista board was the point of origin for much of the video on the laser disc.
