Development of a MicroMUMPS Users Group for the Exchange of Clinical Applications

MUMPS is ideally suited as a high level language for microcomputers, to be used by physicians in group practices too small to justify larger systems. Commercial development of MUMPS on microcomputers is inhibited by current marketing strategies in the microcomputer field. A prototype microMUMPS has been developed, but this version lacks the support features necessary to make it a viable implementation. The concept of a users group to provide the support normally derived from commercial vendors is explored in this report. The discussion covers the proposed organization of such a group, mutual benefits that might be expected, and examples of support already experienced. The concept appears to have great promise and merits serious investigation.
