A Computer-Based Model for Problem Solving

When faced with a set of complex problems, a manager has to make decisions of how to go about addressing them in the most logical and effective manner. This paper describes the application of a computer based, decision making model used to aid in solving a set of complex problems. The model combines a Delphi process for problem definition and a computer algorithm for the problem analysis. The utility of the model is discussed and its application to the Material Management function at Montefiore Medical Center is presented.
