Funduscopy, electro-oculography and electroretinography are all valuable in early detection of chloroquine retinopathy, which is reversible if detected early. Simplified instrumentation for electro-oculography was utilized in testing 12 normal controls, one patient with diabetic retinopathy and 15 patients with potential or actual cases of chloroquine retinopathy. Normal controls, and all but one of the patients without clinical evidence of retinopathy, had electro-oculographic ratios above 180. All patients having evidence of retinopathy had ratios below 180.
