BackgroundRecombinant human erythropoietin (rhuEPO) has received considerable attention because of its neuroprotective properties. It has recently been reported that rhuEPO increases frataxin levels in combination with clinical improvement in rhuEPO treated patients with Friedreich ataxia (FRDA).
