Estimated heavy oil in place in the thin reservoirs of the Huanxi oilfield is 800 × 10 t, mainly distributed in the edge of Jin 91 and 90 blocks, the south of Jin 16 block, the southwest of Jin 25 block, the south of Qian 12 block, and Jin 17 and 612 blocks. It is impossible to achieve economic and efficient development with vertical wells because of heavy oil and thin reservoirs, or as affected by edge/bottom water. Since 2007, horizontal well technology has been studied and spread, effectively solved the problems encountered when developing thin heavy oil reservoirs with vertical wells. Field implementation has achieved good development effect.
