Most studies in the past just serve as a presentation of various situations where pre - emptiveness and anti - pre - emptiveness happen and fail to point out the cognitive motivation underlying those phenomena. By investigating the inner motive of both the pre - emptive and anti - pre - emptire usages of Chinese time deictics from the perspective of economy principle, it is found out that both of them depend on how to achieve maximum communicative effect with the lest efforts.
