There had been over 3,000peo-ple engaging in hairdressing in Shanxi’ s Zhangzi County alone a century ago,a figure accounting for35percent of the then total popula-tion.Since the reform and opening -up,one after another privately owned barbershop has cropped up,which has become a way of getting rich.Wang Guixiang,a farmer from Paili Village,began apprenticeship at th eage of 13and three years later starte d up his won business.And from 1980to the present day there are,out of a 6-member family,four practicing hairdressing and earning an annual income of 20,000yuan.According to statistics,in Zhangzi,more than 5,000people have become professional hairdressers in different parts of China.
