救助人伦缺失且陷于贫困的老年人是宋代居养机构的重要职能之一。一般情况下，居养老年人的救助标准与乞丐的救助标准相当甚或更高，但救助的时间并不如一般所认为的仅限于冬寒之月，而是不限季节。不过，居养老年人的待遇常因宋代居养制度的兴废或异化奢靡或完全落空。这一现象反映了宋代孤贫老年人救助制度的不稳定。%Supporting solitary and poor elders was an important function of nursing home in Song Dynasty. The relief standard was same as or higher than to pauper in general, but the time of aid was not only in cold winter but in all seasons. However, because of the rising and falling of the supporting system, the aids to the elders are sometimes wasteful and sometimes fall through. It relfects the instability of supporting system to solitary and poor elders in Song Dynasty.
