On Medical Care Interpreting: Basic Requirements and Solutions to Typical Problems

Based on Pchhacker, Kadric and Tebble’s theory on interpreting requirements, this paper suggested the basic requirements for medical care interpreters. Through a practical analysis on three typical scenarios, this paper discussed typical problems and their solutions in medical care interpreting, including long instructions, patients asking for advice and unexpected reaction from patients. The research showed that the basic requirements of interpreting are the keys to solving the typical problems and proved the importance of understanding of the barriers in cross-culture communication.
