This paper ifrst analyses the effect of the key characteristics of knowledge-based economy on the management of geological prospecting units. These characteristics include:knowledge-base, sustainable development, globalization, continuous creation and rapid development. The main effects of focus are:the category of managed object will be more extensive;the subject of proift distribution has changed;and the development and use of knowledge has become an effective ways for improving the economic results of the units.
