Atrioventricular block(AVB) is a common rhythm disorder.A variety of diseases could lead to atrioventricular node(AVN) dysfunction.Basically,in a small minority of cases,it is not easy to identify the underlying etiology of AVB at the very beginning, therefore may lead to misdiagnosis and premature permanent pacemaker(PPM) implantation. In order to raise the awareness of the importance of identifying an etiology of AVB before making a decision of PPM implantation, and further to discuss the therapeutic strategies in patients with infective endocarditis after PPM implantation,we are going to introduce a case of high-degree AVB complicated with infective endocarditis, and the controversies regarding PPM management with infective en docarditis are concomitantly discussed on the basis of 2010 American Heart Association(AHA) related guideline.
