New concepts on development of the second heart field

Background Congenital heart diseases(CHDs) account for the majority of life-threatening congenital anomalies at birth. CHDs are outcomes of developmental disorders of heart during embryogenesis. Here, we reviewed the development of cardiac progenitors, called the second heart field(SHF). And it is also the major origin of the outflow tract(OFT), right ventricle and most of the atria.
