Bismuth-doped borate silicate glasses were prepared by melt-quenching method.Glass samples as-prepared show broadband infrared luminescence covering wavelength range from 1000 nm to 1600 nm.The luminescence intensity can be sharply increased by removing OH content in the glass or increasing the melting temperature of the glass. The visible luminescence centered at 650 nm and the infrared luminescence has similar change tendency. They might come from the same luminescence centers that,we think, are the low valence state of bismuth.
