In this paper,the technology of objective fabric measurement is applied to arange of pure silk fabrics produced in the Suzhou area of China,including fabricstyles or qualities such as paj,habotai.georgette,crepe de chine,crepe satin andsilk twill in nominal weights ranging from 21 to 82g/ m2 .The instrumentally mea-sured properties of the finished silk fabrics are represented graphically in the form ofbar charts and are discussed in terms of fabric weight,thickness,tensile properties,shear,bending,compression,surface friction and surface geometry.The mean valueand range for the pure silk finished fabrics are reported for selected fabric low stressmechanical and surface parameters. Using the fabric low stress mechanical and surface property measurements re-ported in this paper,the quality characteristics of finished silk fabrics are evaluatedobjectively and compared.The measurements initiate what could become an impor-tant data base for the objective evaluation of finished pure。silk fabrics produced inCh
