Over the past 50 years nearly, global climate problems have been increasingly serious, over which a number of eco-oriented authors from Europe and America show great concern over. Hamish MacDonald, who was born in Canada and lives in Scotland permanently, is no exception. MacDonald's novel Finitude denounces current social problems and looks to the future, and explores the possibility that human beings encounter climate crisis and even disasters someday in the future. From ecocriticism, this novel shows progressive ecological orientation in terms of spreading channel, writing motive and motif.%近半个世纪以来，全球气候问题日益严重，欧美不少具有生态主义倾向的作家对此忧心忡忡。常住苏格兰的加拿大籍作家哈密什·麦克唐纳也不例外。他的小说《限度》针砭时弊，放眼未来，探讨有朝一日人类面临气候危机乃至灾难的可能性。从生态批评角度而言，小说在传播渠道、创作动机和主题思想方面，深刻体现了气候灾难文学进步的生态主义倾向。
