Factors affecting the explosion limits of flammable refrigerants are analyzed. The conclusion has been drawn that it is unreliable to assess the flammability of a refrigerant according to its lower explosion limit only, and that the test conditions and security coefficient should be taken into account. An experimental apparatus was worked out to test the explosion limits of flammable refrigerants. Refrigerant mixtures composed of flammable refrigerants and retardative agents have been developed to inhibit the flammability of the refrigerants.
