The different regional economic development tendency and the different leading industry decide the different types of economic development. As a province producing much coal, the leading industry in 11 cities in Shanxi is the coal. There are not only many similarities but also obvious differences in economic development of 11 cities. This paper analyzes difference between Datong and other cities in Shanxi by using the common indicators of measuring economy development, and points out such problems existing in Datong as the high proportion of the secondary industry, the high energy consumption per unit of output value, the unapparent advantages of tertiary industry, etc. By analyzing problems, the weaknesses is found and made up, and the focus and the direction of Datong economy development are made explicit.%不同地区经济发展的倾向不同，主导产业不同决定经济发展类型不同，山西作为产煤大省，11个地级市绝大多数主要以煤炭发展为龙头，经济发展有很多相似性，但是在发展的过程中不同地区有明显的层次差别，本文主要以衡量经济发展的常用指标量化分析大同与其他兄弟城市的差别，指出大同存在第二产业比重较高，单位产值能耗过高，第三产业优势不明显等问题。通过分析问题所在，找出差距，弥补不足，明确大同日后经济发展的重点与方向。
