1625年，西班牙耶稣会士拉斯·科尔特斯神父搭乘商船从菲律宾驶往澳门，途经广东省潮州府海岸遇难沉船。拉斯·科尔特斯神父等一些生还者被中国当局做为“海盗”而俘获，广东省的潮州、广州和肇庆府等当局先后审讯了这批人。经过在澳门的耶稣会士们的多方“营救”，他们终于于1626年返回马尼拉。拉斯·科尔特斯神父在他于广东海岸滞留的近一年期间，留下了一部《中国游记》。%In 1625, a Spanish missionary Las Cortes wanted to go to Macao from the Philippines by ship and the ship was wrecked off the coast of Chaozhou, Guangdong province. The Las Cortes and other survivors in this shipwreck were captured as ＂pirates＂ by Chinese government and they were subjected to interrogation of administrations of Chaozhou, Guang- zhou and Zhaoqing in Guangdong. In the end they came back to Manila in 1626 through ＂rescues＂ from the Christians in Macao. But during the period of one year they stayed in Guangdong, Las Cortes wrote a book ＂Travels of China＂.
